In late April 2012, FishbowlLA covered Jay A. Fernandez officially starting at Indiewire as senior writer and news editor. The move — from The Hollywood Reporter — had first been announced by Anne Thompson on her Indiewire blog.

Then

Jay A. Fernandez was a film-and-entertainment journalist whose career had included a substantial Hollywood Reporter tenure. Indiewire, in 2012, was a leading outlet for independent-film coverage and festival reporting. Anne Thompson — whose “Thompson on Hollywood” blog was hosted at Indiewire — had announced the hire.

Now

Indiewire has continued operating across the years, becoming part of the Penske Media portfolio — joining the same ownership group as Variety, Deadline, and (after 2020) The Hollywood Reporter.

The 2012 piece reads now as a small documented moment of film-journalism community staffing — a writer moving between two outlets that would, within a decade, end up under the same Penske Media ownership umbrella.
